With more than 60,000 homeless veterans in the U.S., many whose remains are unclaimed at their death risk burial without military honors. A local funeral home is making sure one Wichita man will not face the same fate.Orvel King died on July 7, 2017. He served in the United States Army.King passed away with no legal next-of-kin to make his funeral arrangements. That’s when Resthaven Mortuary and Cemetery stepped in to see to it that Mr. King receives a proper burial with full military honors.The service will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery located at 11800 W. Kellogg Ave. Additional participating organizations include Gold Star Mothers who will receive the flag in lieu of family.Resthaven Mortuary and Cemetery participates in the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program, which has provided over 1,600 services for homeless veterans since its’ inception in 2000.

Middaugh, 78, of Lometa will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Lometa.Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston. Middaugh Eleanor S. Middaugh, 78, of Lometa died Jan. 30, 2017 at her home. Visitation was held Feb. 1 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas.
